As part of United Metal Products’ commitment to produce energy efficient cooling solutions, they recently attended a conference on effectively managing power usage in data centers. During the conference a list of data center best practices published by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory was shared with those in attendance. Below are three of the best practices that were highlighted:
- Institute an energy management program integrated with other functions (risk management, cost control, quality assurance, employee recognition, training).
- Use life cycle cost analysis as a decision-making tool.
- Minimize construction and operating costs by introducing energy optimization at the earliest phases of design.
One of the solutions that United Metal Products provides that can assist data center owners, facility managers, and mechanical engineers is the IDU™ (Indirect-Direct Unit). The IDUTM is an innovative and energy saving cooling solution that can provide 50% in power savings without the use of harmful CFC’s.
